Computer Cartoon Kit
by Steve Marchant
In the early 1940s, Captain Marvel Junior artist Mac Raboy drew stock poses that were photocopied and reused by him and other artists working on the comic strip. Since then, many cartoonists have used collages in their work, but, in the wrong hands, this technique can leave comic-strips looking repetitive and dull; but with the advent of image–manipulation software, ”found" images and stock poses can be used in a variety of ways, without the need for scissors and paste.

Common problems and solutions
Some of the characters are missing from my CD
On one of the books print runs we accidnetally left some of the files off the CD. You can download these from the list above – they are called Horror, Heros, and Humor.
The Photoshop Elements demo says it needs a serial number, but I don't have one?
You do not needs a serial number ot initiate the 30-day demo. When you get to the serial number page on the installer, leave the fields blank and click the 30-day trial version button to proceed. You can buy a serial number from Adobe which gives you a full license so that the product lasts beyond the 30 days.
The Photoshop Elements demo still won't install
Have you, or anyone else who uses your computer, installed the demo before? Once you have installed it once and used it once, you cannot reset the clock on the 30-days, regardless of how many times you use the program. However since the book came out Adobe have continued to develop Photoshop Elements and there is a new version. Since it offers new features you can idownload this from them and install the thirty day trial, giving access to all the new features. You will need to register at the Adobe site. (Note that they don't offer this service during the month of June, but it will be available again in July.)
I have not installed the demo before and there is no 30-day demo button
There seems to be a problem with some version of Windows that means the trial button on the version of the Photoshop Elements supplied on the disc is unavailable. If you use a Windows machie and have already tried the two options above, then try downloading the alternative version at the bottom of the downloads list above.
My 30-day trial of Photoshop has expired and I cannot afford Photoshop Elements
We use Photoshop in the book because it is one of the most popular graphics programs on the market. It is not, however, the only one. You might have another on your computer already; perhaps one came with your computer? If not, you could consider the powerful GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), which has many similar features to the market-leading programs while being available as a free download.
